Disease Description:
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive disorder of the nervous system. Symptoms include tremor (shaking), rigidity in some muscles, slow movements, and problems with maintaining normal posture. The disease is caused by the death of nerve cells in one of the movement control centers of the brain. Some forms of PD have genetic or familial risk factors.

General Study Procedures:
The research studies listed below are currently open for enrollment for adult subjects. They seek to understand more about the nature of PD and the risk factors for acquiring the disease. Please see the links for the procedures and eligibility criteria for specific studies. There is no cost for participation or for any tests associated with the research.

12-N-0031: Imaging Biomarkers in Parkinson Disease
11-N-0211: Deep brain stimulation surgery for movement disorders
13-N-0167: A longitudinal study assessing the pathophysiology of movement disorders utilizing the QMAT at Home Testing Device
